ABOUT ALEKSANDRA VELGOSHA

Pianist. Collaborative Musician. Teacher.

Aleksandra Velgosha was born in Moscow, Russia. She started her music education at the age of 4 by entering the Arts School of Georgi Sviridov in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Aleksandra started participating in chamber music and piano solo competitions at the age of seven. She won a second prize at the young artists competition “Sparkles” in 2006. In 2009 she  won first and second prizes at the competitions Concertino (Nizhny Novgorod), and Religo (Saint-Petersburg). In 2010, Aleksandra premiered on TV series “What is the truth?” broadcasted on Hope Channel. Aleksandra continued her studies in piano under Professor Sergei Poljakoff, Zaoksky Adventist University. While studying under him, she premiered with Tula Region Orchestra, and won a full scholarship for the music education program at Zaoksky Adventist University. She also won many other international, local and online competitions, including 2nd prize in Crescendo competition (New York, Carnegie Hall, USA). At the age of 16 Aleksandra was invited to study at Washington Adventist University, MD, where she was offered full scholarship. There she studied under Dr. Mark Di Pinto and played as a soloist with New England Youth Ensemble. Aleksandra also served as a Columbia Collegiate Choral and Pro Musica accompanist. In 2018 she won first prize at E. R. Davis Piano Competition. In the fall of the same year, Aleksandra started studying under Dr. Larissa Dedova, University of Maryland. In 2019, Aleksandra perused orchestral conducting studies under Prof. Michael Patterson. At Washington Adventist University Aleksandra has received such awards as Neil Tilkins Scholarship, Performer of the Year, and Senior of the Year.

 

Aleksandra has participated in master-classes led by Awadagian Pratt, Herbert Blomstedt, Ivan Citera, Xun Pan, Gary Levinson, Baya Kakouberi, and attended Port City Music Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina.

 

Aleksandra received her masters degree in music in 2022 at the University of Maryland, where she studied under Dr. Larissa Dedova. While she studied at the University of Maryland, Aleksandra actively participated in chamber music. She gave two chamber recitals and a solo recital. Aleksandra was awarded a half-assistanship to attend UMD. Her responsibilities included being a class piano graduate student coordinator, teaching such courses as sight reading and class piano, as well as private lessons. Aleksandra also taught privately in the DMV area and in such institutions as Richardson and Chanson Schools of Music, and Takoma Academy, where she taught music appreciation.

Aleksandra is currently in her second year of doctoral program at James Madison University, where she studies under Dr. Gabriel Dobner. She was awarded a full assistantship to attend JMU. Her responsibilities include teaching class piano, accompanying students, and playing with the Wind Symphony. Aleksandra currently maintains a private studio in the DMV area.
